Soundview Community

The Soundview community pulls together families from all directions and many walks of life. They share something special: the Soundview experience that has changed their children's lives.

Current families as well as alumni students and families come together for a number of community-building events, many of which date to Soundview’s origins in 1989. The school year still begins with our back-to-school picnic, when returning families welcome new families to the school in an event sponsored by the Parents’ Association. Parents new to the school have an opportunity to learn more about the school and meet each other in a more intimate setting at the New Parents’ Reception early in the fall. This event begins the process of connecting to our community.

In late September, students and faculty bond at our annual softball tournament, when they all venture to a local park for a morning of lighthearted fun. In October, Back-to-School Night offers parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and discover how students spend their days at Soundview.

The second semester brings the annual Talent Show. This event packs the house with current families and alumni to see talented students and faculty showcased in our always engaging, occasionally hilarious, show.

In early spring, Soundview holds its annual fundraiser, organized by parent volunteers. The Spring Gala features the entertaining live auction, as well as many silent auction items.

Soundview graduates pay frequent visits during their college breaks, and Soundview hosts periodic alumni parties. Past events have included a college forum in which recent graduates shared their experiences of college life with current students. Alumni enjoy taking part in another all-school event, “Texas Day,” a tongue-in-cheek celebration of the Head of School’s home state, when Soundview's current and alumni families, students, faculty and staff get together in late May for a Texas-style picnic and barbecue, live country music, games and conversation on our lovely campus.

A more formal event is the spring prom, an evening organized by the students themselves. In June, the entire community—students and their families, alumni, faculty and staff—gather for the Graduation Banquet, which celebrates the successful completion of the seniors’ upper school careers, and introduces the juniors as the incoming senior class. On graduation day, any senior who wishes to do so addresses the audience during ceremonies that mark the seniors’ passage from the Soundview experience to a new future.
